Did you know that Haiti is considered the only 4th world country in the Western hemisphere?
That was before yesterday.
After a 7.0 earthquake, more than 3 million people are estimated to have been affected by collapsed buildings and infastructure. Hospitals can’t handle the demands of the injured earthquake victims. The presidential palace, parliament and other government buildings have collapsed. Important leaders, including France’s UN mission leader and the Catholic archbishop of Port au Prince are being reported among the dead.
This is an immense strain on the tiny country beyond the troubles they already faced.
American relief and government agencies have been put into action, preparing to send in rescue crews, Red Cross volunteers and a Naval hospital ship to help.
