I track hits on my blog as well as my client sites on a regular basis. And that tracking data includes what search engine terms people follow in order to get to a particular web page.

But now, Google has taken search engine tracking to a new level, extrapolating influenza outbreaks by location, based on searches for flu symptoms.

According to an article on CNN.com today about Google Flu Trends, the Google data can predict flu outbreaks 2 weeks earlier than traditional Center for Disease Control reports.

The only downside is that Google cannot tell you whether or not Mr. Sneezy at the cubicle next to you has been searching for flu symptoms. You’re on your own for that.

If I could change the world… I would be $10 million richer.

Today Google announced it’s 10^100 project.

Basically, they’re giving people with ideas that will change the world $10 million to go ahead and change it.

Project 10 to the 100th is looking for ideas like the Hippo Water Roller or maybe even the PFNC Global Communities project.

It’s hard to make it look easy

I have fallen in love.

No, not with a boy. With this video from Google’s outdoor campaign in Berlin, promoting their video searching capabilities.

When you break it down, it’s really just a frame, set up in a public place. Simple as pie.

But, much like the saying “simple as pie” – it’s not so simple. Have you ever tried to make pie crust from scratch?

It’s hard to make your marketing look effortless. But that’s the beauty of Google – they make hard stuff easy and cool for everyday people. That’s the true test of anything that comes out of their office.

Was it hard? Yes.
Did we make it easy? Yes.
Will people think it’s cool. Yes.

Okay, let’s do it.
